WhatsApp’s scam warnings
You may have noticed most banks now ask you to pause and check whether the bill you’re paying is going to the right person. WhatsApp has introduced similar warnings when someone not in your contacts sends you a message. It will ask whether you recognise the number and whether the message seems legitimate (see screenshot 1 ). It’ll also warn you when a noncontact invites you to join a group 2 . You’ll see information about the group, and have the chance to read the chat to check whether it looks genuine. If it does and you join, WhatsApp will send you notifications as normal. You can alternatively ignore the invite and click ‘Exit group’. You won’t receive any further invites or notifications for the group. Read more on WhatsApp’s blogs: www.snipca.com/55835.
