“As soon as you melt glass you have a living thing – you have a connection with it”
EMMA MACKINTOSH creates beautiful wine glasses and goblets inspired by the nature outside her studio in the Lake District

WHERE IT ALL BEGAN When you talk about hot glass you think of a furnace in a factory… I have a small studio and a bench. As soon as you melt glass you have something living: it’s in no way inanimate – you have a connection. That feeling goes into the glass and I hope it translates into people loving what I make and enjoying a drink from it. It’s impossible not to be inspired by nature in the Lakes. My studio looks out on a beck, trees and fields – it’s stunning. I work on my own so I listen to podcasts and occasionally sing along to the music.
