Digital FilmMaker Magazine DFM Issue 67 Edição anterior

English

We’ve got an interesting feature on page 92 of this issue, one that takes us into the world of the film festival. The one in question is Edinburgh Short Film Festival, which has been around for a number of years now and Paul Bruce, the man behind it delivers some sound advice on why you need to be in it to win it. However, film festivals are many and varied, plus we’ve had more than a few people come to use stating that they’ve had a thoroughly miserable experience after registering with one or two rogue festival merchants. There do seem to be too many festivals these days and, in some cases, they’re badly thought out, offer little in the way of benefits and, worse still, relieve cash-strapped filmmakers of much needed funds. Even some of the more ‘notable’ festivals aren’t exactly everything they’re cracked up to be. So while Paul delivers some handy advice during the course of the feature, we should all think about being a little bit more selective about film festivals and which ones we sign up for. After all, you’ve probably done a lot of hard work in production, so why waste all that effort hoping for exposure via a tinpot film fest. Do your homework folks!
