TITANIC
Bridget Minamore
For a certain generation, the movie Titanic was the height of romance. And for the queers, there was Kate Winslet’s melodramatic defiance and Leo DiCaprio looking like a baby butch before Justin Bieber was even born. Which makes Titanic a fitting title for Bridget Minamore’s fabulous debut pamphlet. Minamore captures the way that love, lust, heartbreak and shame happen against a backdrop of pop culture. She deftly weaves in the comedy as well as the pain of breaking up, and the horrors of dating when commitment is seen as vaguely uncool. Standout poems include Speakerboxx and The Love Below, both inspired by the cringe-inducing question: are you two shagging each other?
