This year’s DIVA Awards were an emotional one, with moving speeches from Broadcaster of the Year Sandi Toksvig, outgoing Stonewall chief Ruth Hunt, Lyra McKee’s partner Sara Canning and UK Black Pride director (and newly crowned Diversity Champion) Phyll Opoku-Gyimah.
Hosted by Marcella actor Victoria Broom and The L Word’s Rachel Shelley, the DIVA Awards are designed to put women centre stage, honouring those who make a real difference to the lives of lesbians, bisexual women, queer, trans and intersex people.
Winners on the night included Emmerdale’s Michelle Hardwick, who showed that #RepresentationMatters picking up not only the Best Actor award, but Best Storyline too, for an on-screen romance that has captivated us all.
