THE ROLLING NEWS coverage of the Orlando massacre gradually revealed the full horror of the story. Friends huddled outside the Pulse nightclub, sobbing. People helped carry the wounded. There was a distraught mother – her son was inside the club, he hadn’t called to say he was okay, hours had passed, the truth was obvious but too terrible to speak. The worst mass shooting in US history, we were told. The deadliest terror attack on US soil since 9/11. And it was a hate crime against the LGBTI community, and specifically against people of colour within the LGBTI community.
