GIRL GROUPS
We’ve always embraced a singing diva, so why wouldn’t we love three, four or five of them in a bunch? These polished pop princesses have sound-tracked our scene for decades. But why girl groups and not boy bands? We may have the hots for the lads they just don’t channel the same authenticity. While the girls are sassy, heartfelt or sexy, the boys look cocky, over-earnest or desperate. Yes, it’s all manufactured but the girls just do it better – sweet harmonies and tight choreography. We love to see individual personalities emerge and witness the ensuing drama: Miss Ross quits The Supremes, Siobhan quits Bananarama, the Sugababe’s temp agency! At its best, we see sisterhood, sassiness, friendship and control and hear some of the most memorable commercial pop and R&B tunes ever. Go girls!
