DNA: Why “Crook” and not just “Daniel” for your current project?
Crook: Crook is my mother’s maiden name and I began using it a few years ago as a gentle protest against my father’s bloodline and their way of living.
Crook has many meanings, obviously!
The word conjures up a rich history of associations for me as a queer person. Cis-gendered heterosexual white males were considered “normal” while everyone else was, to varying degrees, bent, crooked, queer.
