The first Dr Who Annual, published by World Distributors in September 1965.

The history of the Doctor Who annuals is chequered, to say the least. It all began promisingly enough in 1965, when World Distributors published The Dr Who Annual beneath a hardcover that showed various alien beings gathered on a bleak planetary surface, gazing at a severe-looking Doctor in front of a pyramid-topped TARDIS. This is an image that’s become so ingrained in fandom’s collective memory that it was parodied on an alternative cover hidden inside the DVD release of the 2013 docudrama An Adventure in Space and Time.
To some extent, the original annual set the tone for its 19 successors – adventure stories pitting the Doctor against alien monsters, accompanied by dramatic illustrations (attacking Zarbi, crashing spacecraft, a surprising number of scantily clad men), plus a semi-factual article (Who is Dr Who?) and a game (Journey Back to Earth).
