Hi Everyone, I hope you have all
recovered from the very wet
and windy record breaking,
weather wise, Christmas and
New Year. Let’s hope Father Christmas
brought you something that you wanted
and not a pump for pumping out a cellar
full of water, as was the case with a friend
of mine in Devon. My heart goes out to
everyone who has been flooded at this
time. The mopping up I’m sure hasn’t
been easy at all, as I've known from past
experience myself.
What did you buy your other half
for Christmas? Well Jayne got a new
compressor with a V-twin engine, so
we can blow up her car tyres when she
wishes! Well that’s my excuse; at least it’s
better than the ironing board I bought her
some 37 years ago now.
On Boxing Day, up until 1.30pm the
weather was dry and I was able to take in
the Six Bells Tractor Road Run, which had
nearly 100 tractors participating. I was part
of creating this event a number of years
ago now and it has become very popular,
hosted so well by the Burgess family at
Cross in Hand, Sussex who provide great
Christmas food and good cheer.
After saying my farewells I was off to
Ifield near Crawley for another gathering
the same day and again was made very
welcome by the participants. I know
many of you took part in road runs all
over the country with the record on
Boxing Day being in East Anglia when
130 were out on the roads. I know many
of you got wet at some time or other on
the runs that you took part in during the
Christmas – New Year week, but again
good levels of monies were raised for
various charities, which is great.
I was pleased to hear from Dickie
Croft over the Christmas period. He rang
to tell me about the recently named
Easter Day ‘1066 Tractor Vintage Road
Run’ that’s to take place from Hailsham
Market and will be in aid of St James
& St Peter’s Hospice, a very worthy cause.
