The October issue of Gardens Illustrated highlights the mellow beauty of autumn. We visit a Great Dixter-inspired garden in the Weald of Kent, designed with a light touch by Jo Thompson and packed with interest from spring to autumn. We also drop in on a large garden in Surrey designed by Matthew Childs that prioritises year-round fun for the whole family. We admire the seclusion of a previously overlooked south London garden, now blissfully private thanks to the clever placing of deciduous trees.
