Home Farmer Magazine July 2016 issue Edição anterior

The July issue of Home Farmer is now available to download, arriving at a crossover point for keen vegetable gardeners; the harvest is in full flow, creating spaces which a conscientious gardener should look to fill with plants to harvest in autumn and winter, and even as far ahead as the 2017 hungry gap. Well, that’s the theory, at least, but for some it’s simply more important to enjoy summer from the perspective of the plot, and to then let things quieten down as autumn takes over. There’s certainly no right or wrong with either approach, and we’re confident that the July issue of Home Farmer will have enough to satisfy gardeners from either camp, with seasonal tips and cost-saving advice, a feature on square foot gardening, harvesting and planning ahead for those gardening under cover, using sheep fleeces on the plot, creating a butterfly-friendly garden, and gardening (and cooking) to make the most of your bean crop. We also have features on dealing with cockerels – a problem for anyone hatching eggs – rehoming bees, harvesting honey, foraging, cooking with a ‘haybox’ – a fuel-less method of cooking that understandably became very popular in the early 20th century – and lots of recipes, including chilled summer soups, plum wine and mead, and some tasty treats that could be described as ‘guilty pleasures’ if they just weren’t so darned healthy. So please join us as we make the most of our space, our produce and our resources with Home Farmer – the magazine that makes the good life even better!
