Our first building project was an Edwardian house, which we gutted and renovated. [The project was shortlisted for a The Daily Telegraph Homebuilding & Renovating Awards in 2017.] It was great and I love period houses but the surprise ‘features’ you find along the way that haven’t been factored into the budget got us thinking that maybe building a new home would be a different and more straightforward experience.
I’m quite up for getting stuck into DIY but for Henry building a new home is his life’s dream. The initial plans that came with our plot were almost just what we needed in terms of a first self-build project, as we were able to engineer some minor design changes to get the costs to align more with our budget.
