astero follows the old Unix philosophy of doing one thing well. You can use the tool to add podcasts that offer RSS feeds, fetch episodes and metadata, and even download episodes for offline listening, but little else. You only need Python, sqlite3 and a media player such as VLC or mpv before you get started with installing Castero. You can find them all in your distro’s software repos. With the dependencies in place, run pip3 install castero to install it.
To launch it, run castero from the terminal. To add a new podcast feed to Castero, press ‘a’. The bottom of the interface will then change to enable you to type or paste the URL of the RSS feed for the podcast that you wish to listen to.
