What are the options?
You can find smart locks to fit (or retrofit) most bolt types, from deadbolts to night latches. The most common type is the deadbolt. They’re probably the most useful drop–in smart lock, both because they’re compatible with just about any door, and because the majority of other bolt styles are constructed in such a way that it can be difficult to unlock them automatically. Smart night latches, for example, usually replace a standard lock barrel but lack the torque required to pull back the spring that keeps them shut. Key–turners can turn a key (or their equivalent barrel, in many cases) but if you have a multi– point locking door you’ll need to yank the handle on your own.
