A while ago, Nvidia announced a new ‘halo’ card, the GeForce RTX 3090 Ti. This was a beast, with over 40 TFLOP of shading power, and 78 TFLOP for ray tracing. It also has a tasty 24GB of GDDR6 running at 21Gbps. It should have finally landed by the time you read this.
We’ve no idea why Nvidia delayed the launch, but early shots of the card show it sporting the new PCIe 5.0 power connector. This, and the specs, point to a power consumption of around 450W. Now the bad news. As Nvidia’s top-flight card, it commands a premium, with online retailers asking up to $3-4,000. We expect that to fall, but the first ones to hit the market are going to get scalped. What the MSRP will be remains to be seen, and Nvidia may not even bother setting one for now. –CL
