The total cost of mental ill health in England in 2022 was £300.4 billion (£300,350,633,424). Costs of mental ill health were split into four categories: economic, health and care, human, and intangible.
Human costs, defined as the monetary value of reduced quality of life among people living with mental ill health, represented the largest share of costs at £130.5 billion (£130,476,853,572). These costs included:
