Here we have no less than seven RAF C-130s in a variety of sizes and colour schemes from the days of RAF Lyneham-based operations. As well as the main markings there are sets of the different RAF roundel styles that apply.
01 C.4 Hercules, XV305 ‘305’ with No. 70 Squadron, the Lyneham Transport Wing in August 2010. The scheme is overall NATO Green. 02 C.4P Hercules XV190 ‘190’ ‘Betty Boop’ with the Lyneham Transport Wing when operating during ‘Operation Granby’ in Saudi Arabia in 1992. This Hercules is in an overall camouflage pattern of Dark Green and Dark Sea Grey. 03 C.1P Hercules XV297 ‘297’ ‘Where’s the Beach’ with the Lyneham Transport Wing during ‘Operation Granby’ in Saudi Arabia in 1992. An overall camouflage pattern of Dark Green and Dark Sea Grey applies. 04 C-1P Hercules XV206 ‘206’ ‘The Silver Tongued Cavalier’ with the Lyneham Transport Wing operating from Riyad during ‘Operation Granby’ in 1992. The original Dark Green/Dark Sea Grey camouflage pattern was covered with a coat of Desert Pink apart from the bottom of the fuselage. 05 C.1 Hercules XV307 ‘307’ with No. 48 Squadron when seen in the Seychelles in June 1970. This early RAF Hercules was painted in the eye-catching camouflage scheme of a pattern of Dark Earth and Light Stone on the upper surfaces with Black undersides and the White cockpit ‘cap’. 06 C.1 Hercules XV304 ‘304’ with the Lyneham Transport Wing at RAF Lyneham in May 1976. The scheme is again Dark Earth/Light Stone/Black. 07 C.1P Hercules XV206 ’206’ “Foxy Lady’ with the Lyneham Transport Wing supporting ‘Operation Granby’ at Riyad in Saudi Arabia in 1992. The scheme illustrated was an overall pattern of Dark Green and Dark Sea Grey but soon afterwards was overpainted Desert Pink.
