Has there ever been a greater or more influential run of albums than the ones David Bowie released between 1970 and 1980? From mystical hard rock and extra-terrestrial glam to ‘plastic soul’ and icy Mittel European art rock, Bowie breathed new life into rock’n’roll, frequently pushing it into territories it had never previously conceived of entering.

As astounding as that 10 year period was, Bowie’s entire career is no less remarkable, from his days as a wannabe superstar in Swinging London right up to the release of Blackstar, easily the greatest parting gift any musician has given the world. Yet he was so much more than a musician – he was an actor on film and on album, an internet early-adopter, an art lover, a cultural lightning rod.

This special 132-page magazine, drawn from the archives of Classic Rock magazine, charts Bowie’s unique journey. In it, we dive deep into the making of his key albums, from Hunky Dory and The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars, through The Berlin Trilogy and Let’s Dance, right up to his remarkable comeback with The Next Day and the final, valedictory Blackstar, all with input from key participants, including The Thin White Duke himself.

So turn the volume up on Ziggy Stardust or Low, or maybe one of his great overlooked albums (personally, I’m going for Earthling), and enjoy…
