AN EVEN contest, with some controversy, saw Fort lose to Ross County from the last ball of the match.
Batting first, Fort looked in a strong position but fell away from 115-4 to 133 all out. Ash Anjum top scored with 41 and Col Jennings made a useful 30. But after Ronnie Maclean went for 18 there was little resistance. Sugden, the County bowler was unable to complete his first over having been judged to have bowled three no-balls above waist height.
Still Fort felt they were in with a chance and the strong opening partnership of Duncan and Ross Lavin meant Ross struggled for runs. Davidson chipped in with the wicket of Bishop and Colin Lavin dismissed top scorers Sugden (31) and Embleton (32). Two run outs and some tight bowling by Anjum (0-12 from 9 overs) set the scene for a close finish. However, Davidson became the second bowler to be withdrawn after his third high no-ball and Fort were unable to prevent the last Ross pair hitting the winning run from the last ball of the match.
