OBAN – United Auctions had a catalogued entry of 115 store cattle, 20 cows and calves, 10 cast cows, 112 ewes and lambs and 452 grazing hoggs and ewes at their opening sale at Oban Livestock Centre on Tuesday June 1. A large turnout of buyers resulted in a buoyant trade throughout and sellers returned home satisfied with their day’s trading.
Bullocks sold to a top of £1,080 for Limousin crosses from Achnaba and to 326 pence per kilo, also for Limousin crosses from Glencreran Estate. Heifers sold to £1180 for Simmental crosses from Ardencaple and to 347 pence per kilo for British Blue cross from Tiree. Breeding cattle sold to £1220 for cows with heifer calf from Ardmay, Tiree. Hoggs from Barguillean sold to £101. Gimmers with lamb at foot from Tiree sold to £180, whilst the same home sold ewes with lambs at £162.
