You really could not make it up. The train company, ScotRail Alliance, goes to the expense of constructing a £100,000 passenger shelter at Oban railway station – and then bans commuters from using it.
It simply beggars belief for a number of reasons, not the least of which is because here on the edge of the West Highlands we regularly experience what might be euphemistically called changeable climate conditions.
We are constantly being exhorted these days to ditch our private cars and to use public transport instead in an effort to be more environmentally friendly and to combat climate change and air pollution. However, to persuade travellers to make the most of public transport, including our trains, the service has to be attractive, with punctual arrivals and departures – and decent facilities for passengers.
