These are understandably very worrying times for all members of staff working for Argyll and Bute Council and concerned about their future job security.
As we report on the front page this week, the local authority was meeting today (Thursday October 19) to discuss its budgetary dilemma.
Councillors were wrestling with the unenviable task of trying to meet its financial obligations, which have them peering into the abyss of a projected funding shortfall of some £20 million over the next three years.
