A PROVISIONAL licence holder, who was only allowed to drive a work’s van on an Isle of Jura building site, was fined £600 and given six points on his driving licence after he crashed it and the vehicle was destroyed by fire.
Klaidas Birbalas, 24, of 3 Dee Place, Aberdeen, pleaded guilty to three charges: taking the van without the owner’s permission, leaving it burning and unattended and not having L-plates displayed.
On Thursday last week, Procurator Fiscal Eoin McGinty told Campbeltown Sheriff Court Birbalas was employed by a scaffolding firm but only had permission to drive the van on site.
