It is a sad fact of life that we continue to live in dangerous times and rely still on our brave military men and women to keep up safe from those who would harm us and our way of life.
So it should come as little surprise that huge numbers of people turned out in Oban and across Argyll and the Isles to pay tribute to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in two world wars and numerous other conflicts.
In what were very poignant and moving ceremonies, armed services veterans, current serving personnel, local dignitaries and the uniformed youth organisations, as well as others, came together over the weekend to honour the memory of those who have died in defence of our country.
