Despite the water nudging over 5 degrees, fun was had by all at the IISA GB Championships in Hatfield, Yorkshire
Sadly, mild weather before the International Ice Swimming Association GB Championships on 5 and 6 January meant that the water at 5.5 degrees Celsius did not quite dip to the required 5 degrees to qualify as officially “icy”. However, competitors from all over the UK and as far afield as Ireland, South Africa, New Zealand, Australia and Colombia enjoyed a range of events from 50m breaststroke to 1,000m freestyle. The youngest swimmer was just 17 and the oldest a youthful 66.
