SAMURAI GOURAMI
Think ‘gourami’ and your mind might venture one of three ways. There are the manufactured dwarfs with amplified colours and a penchant for lethal viruses. There are the middle-ground ruffians, the Pearl and Three-spots of the Trichopodus genus, stalwarts of the gourami scene. and there are the giants ,known tankbusters and avoided by all but the reckless few. at the smaller end there is so much more than the line-bred colour morphs of Trichogaster lalius, the Dwarf gourami. Take, for one, the high maintenance, high-strung hotties that are the Chocolate gouramis. These fish are something of an acquired taste. The common species are brown-toned to blend in with the rum-dark waters they inhabit. But the Samurai gourami, Sphaerichthys vaillanti, throws such caution to the wind. Reserved and colourful, and only a little bit needy, you’ll wonder how you ever coped without the gorgeous Samurai gourami in your tank.
