JUNE 29 saw the first train carrying spoil removed during HS2 construction work in London, depart from the Willesden Logistics Hub. The train powered by No. 66732 carried 1470 tonnes of spoil to Barrington in Cambridgeshire for reuse in the development of a quarry site for housing.
Contractors building the HS2 tunnels through London and working on Old Oak Common and Euston stations will use the hub. A conveyor to transport spoil directly from Old Oak Common is due to come into operation by spring next year.
