YOUNG RAILWAY PHOTOGRAPHER OF THE YEAR 2022
Entries in this major new competition organised by the Railway Photographic Society (Rail Camera Club) identified a fantastic wealth of talented young railway photographers.
IN
2018, the Rail Camera Club organised the ‘Rail Cameraman’ exhibition at Locomotion in Shildon to showcase the work of the club’s members. It was then a natural progression to hold a ‘Young Railway Photographer of the Year’ competition, the results of which were announced at the National Railway Museum in York on February 24. The same day also saw the RCC revert to its original name of The Railway Photographic Society to mark its centenary.
The intention of the competition was to encourage photographers under the age of 25 to follow in the footsteps of the RPS/
RCC’s existing members by producing high-quality images capturing the changing railway scene.
The competition, on the theme of ‘The Railway Seen’, was launched in November
2019, but was delayed by a year due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Over 900 images from more than 150 individual entrants were received, ranging across a wide variety of subjects, locations, and photographic treatments.
