The Long View: December

Locomotion No. 1

1 The original 1825 Locomotion No. 1 (although it was first known as Active) can be found on display at the appropriately named Locomotion Museum in Shildon, as seen on September 25 alongside HST power No. 43102.

2 A cavalcade was held in 1925 to mark 100 years since the opening of the S&DR, the original Locomotion being restored to work the 54th and last train in the event. The engine was not in steam, but rather had a petrol engine hidden in the tender to provide the power.
