THE North Tyneside Steam Railway (NTSR) wagon collection has been boosted by the addition of six historic vehicles that will further the aim of re-creating the typical coal and oil trains, which regularly operated over the line during its working life.
The vehicles have hitherto formed part of the Darlington Railway Preservation Society(DRPS) fleet. However, the DRPS has had to downsize its collection in the face of substantial moving costs associated with the group’s relocation from the 1825 goods shed at Darlington North Road station to the 1861 Whessoe Road engine shed as part of the creation of a new Railway Heritage Quarter around the station area. A group of NTSR members bought half a dozen vehicles that were surplus to requirements.
