SciFiNow  |  Issue 140
The latest issue of SciFi Now is now available to download.
What a year it’s been. We’ve seen high-profile flops that may have killed movie universes, and low-budget films become pop culture phenomena. Wonder Woman slayed hoary old “wisdom” about female superhero movies, indie horror film Get Out is a serious Oscars contender and R-rated Stephen King adaptation IT broke records.
It’s been a golden year for horror, but beyond that, it’s just been a great year for movies. Logan, Blade Runner: 2049, War For The Planet Of The Apes, Thor: Ragnarok… and that’s not even getting into the TV we’ve been blessed with. Twin Peaks’ return was landmark television. Star Trek: Discovery, American Gods, Legion and The Handmaid’s Tale delivered great debut seasons, and Doctor Who, Stranger Things, Inside No 9, Preacher and The Leftovers went from strength to strength. The world may have been terrifying outside, but the fiction was thrilling.
But enough about 2017. This issue is all about looking ahead at what’s to come, and trying to stick to just 100 films and TV shows coming our way in 2018 and beyond proved to be a difficult task (we’ve almost definitely missed something, so please feel free to tell us on Twitter).
Elsewhere in this issue, we go on set for Doctor Who’s Christmas special to say goodbye to Peter Capaldi’s Time Lord and showrunner Steven Moffat, we talk to the director and star of Black Mirror’s anthology episode ‘Black Museum’ to find out what it’s like bringing Charlie Brooker’s twisted visions to life, and we talk to the makers of The Muppet Christmas Carol about how making Charles Dickens’ classic saved the gang. So, get out your 2018 planner (and your 2019 planner if you have one), and take a look at everything you need to start getting excited about.
Happy New Year!
