Q I have recently applied to the local police firearms department for an authority to shoot on land owned by a friend of mine. The land hasn’t been shot on before other than for the odd bit of game with shotguns. I sent in the appropriate request weeks ago, but no one has yet got back to me. Can I assume it is okay after a period of time and carry on, or do I have to continue to wait, because it is getting quite frustrating and my mate wants me to get on.
A Stuart says: This is not an uncommon problem across the rifle shooting community and, unfortunately, you have little choice but to patiently keep pressing your local firearms department for a response. Unless and until the land is authorised you are advised not to shoot it with rifles - no matter how safe you and your friend judge it to be.
