What’s the difference between a card game and a board game? The answer seems obvious, till some bright spark starts arguing that Cribbage is ‘really’ a board game of the race variety, being won by the first person to reach ‘home’ of a 61, 121 or 181 target score. On this dubious reckoning, the card play is just a way of providing the random numbers needed to propel you forwards, and you might as well play it with dice. (Except, of course, that Crib is a game where skill overcomes chance in the long run, making it ‘really’ a card game rather than a board game.)
