Dear Readers,
This week we are celebrating all things glamorous, and what better icon than our cover star, the irresistible Ava Gardner. She was the perfect embodiment of the age of Hollywood screen sirens, when dressing down, even on the beach, was not an option. Hers was an hourglass figure that drew men to her like moths to a flame. She lit up screens and broke hearts, all the while dressed to impress. As our fashion pages show this week, it is a style that is set to return, which is wonderful news for those of us with a little more flesh than the average supermodel.
We are also paying tribute to Prince Charles, who this week becomes our longest-serving Prince of Wales. We look back at his remarkably chic-looking official investiture at Caernarfon Castle, where he was crowned underneath a Perspex canopy designed by Lord Snowdon, with three huge Prince of Wales feathers made from polystyrene – it was the 1960s after all!
Here at the office we are all embracing the crisper weather by dreaming of autumn breaks. Is there a nicer time to get away?
Or even to spend the time making the best of the garden? For
fruit fans our jam maker’s feature is bursting with delicious ideas
that just cry out for a special place on the tea table – alongside
a small glass of sherry, maybe…
Until next week, best wishes

With their beautiful head office situated in the renowned Covent Garden, The Lady magazine has always been the quintessential choice of magazine for the elegant lady.
