DAMES OF THRONES: WHO IS THE STRONGEST?
At a time when TV shows are often criticised for a lack of strong female characters, that accusation could never be levelled at Game of Thrones. After all, when it comes to courage, cunning and sheer sadistic cruelty, the women of Westeros have proved themselves more than a match for any man. This season alone we’ve seen loyal Brienne of Tarth laying waste to Ramsay Bolton’s soldiers in her quest to protect Sansa; brave Arya proving that blindness is no hindrance to her fighting skills; and Ellaria Sand revealing her ruthless streak by dispatching the ineffectual Prince Doran. ‘The women are rocking this season,’ says HBO’s Michael Lombardo. ‘They power the new series. It’s organic to the storytelling, yet a radical shift. It’s very exciting.’ Here, we pay tribute to the formidable females that make the show so unmissable.
