Given their wealth of influences, it’s best not to take this fraternal duo’s name seriously. Like Sparks, they use humour and genre-bending to bewilder, knitting together incompatible styles – not least ’80s synthpop and indie – to absurd but nonetheless complex ends. Opener “Long Winter Evenings”’ 10 minutes are like a Gallic LCD Soundsystem, while “Cable Call” adds guitars and stuttering rhythms. The lengthy “The Sixth Dragonfly”, furthermore, leads with psychedelic dreampop before exploring how Colors might have sounded if Beck had blown his budget on mushrooms.
