VEGAN FRIENDS
THE IMPORTANCE OF VEGAN FRIENDS
Will Sorflaten from Viva! knows the value of having vegan friends and guides you to ways to grow your own support network
Meeting up in person isn’t so easy at the moment, so make the most of those in your bubble.
In one way, I’m very much in a bubble. As a campaigner at Viva!, I’m in the unique position of being able to say that all of my colleagues are vegan too. At the same time, my parents are both vegan, my fiancée is vegan, and most of my friends are vegan as well.
This bubble, however, is punctured quite often through my job. I’m frequently confronted with the worst that animal agriculture has to offer through my line of work, and our outreach on the streets is a firm reminder for me that veganism is not the norm (not yet, anyway).
I wouldn’t want to remain in that bubble all the time, where it would be so easy to think that everyone around me is vegan, that our work is done, that we don’t need to campaign for animals any more. That would sap my energy as a campaigner, and it wouldn’t help the animals. So I’m glad of the punctures; it’s what keeps me going for the animals and planet in promoting the vegan message.
