Over 70,000 species of plants, animals and fungi are currently found in the UK, encompassing a multitude of sentient beings deserving of free, painless and fulfilling lives. We must protect the UK’s flora and fauna because it is not ours to destroy, and because we have a responsibility to repair the damage that we have already, so ungraciously, caused. The depletion of our native wildlife not only shows a lack of respect for innocent creatures and a selfish desire to dominate our country and do with the environment as we see fit, but it also demonstrates a mass disconnect to nature — after a millennia of humans evolving, growing, and thriving in and alongside it.
Nature provides us with life-giving resources like water, food and oxygen, but also many other benefits, meaning it’s more important than ever that we strive to protect and reconnect to it.
