What can the dynamics in question be conducted to? The bumper thus conceived, that is as a deterrent to collisions, has certainly conditioned the behavior of the drivers who now, to avoid compromising their own race by stumbling into an accidental bump or crash following a late braking or extreme attempt to pass, seems to prefer adopting a new method. The technique is to immediately attack the inside space, thus avoiding to involve the bumper altogether, and in overreaching, however, avoiding the opponent’s rear end in case of contact. Sometimes the method works and the driver passes his or her opponent without contact. But an attack on the inside, made early or even prematurely - as seen at Essay - may still produce a collision at an angle of 45° when the kart in front engages its trajectory and is - inevitably - hit by the kart close behind. So in a lefthand bend, for example, the right front wheel of the inside kart takes off on the wheel or on the side fairing of the kart on the outside and, almost always, at least on the French track, one or the other takes flight or end up rolling dangerously over. So insult is added to injury and the infamous spoiler becomes responsible for a new overtaking trend. A sort of double-edged weapon that has neutralized a certain type of accident on the one hand, but on the other endorses a potentially more dangerous approach than rear end, bumper-to-bumper, contact. And the rollovers in Essay prove it.
