SUPERKART SCARY!
David Coulthard, the former Formula One driver, after trying a Superkart said, “One of the scariest things I’ve ever had to deal with.” Not that the Scottish driver has ever lacked for anything in his racing life: from accidents on the track to a plane crash from which he miraculously emerged alive. Yet, the experience on board these small cars capable of reaching speeds well above 200 km / h has truly remained impressed upon him.

Doing a little math is easy: if you think that the vehicle weighs 218 kilograms and has 100 HP, you understand why a Superkart does 0-100 km 7 h in less than 3 seconds – in comparison, today’s Formula One do 0-100 in 1.7. The distinction regarding the two data is, today more than ever, the large amount of electronics that characterizes the maximum formula, compared to Superkart where there are no electronic components intervening on the starting procedures. A few numbers explain and describe a category that is among the most impressive in the world of karting, one which has just seen the end of its 2018 European Championship, and why - on these pages – we’d like to report and learn a little more.
Three events, with a double score, related to race 1 and race 2. In the end, with four wins out of 6, the European title was won by the German Peter Elkmann in front of the Czech driver Adam Kout and the Belgian Yannick De Brabander on the third step of the podium. A victory for Kout, in race 2 at Le Mans, at the Bugatti circuit, last round and a victory for De Brabander in race 2 at Assen when Elkmann, however in difficulty, retired due to engine fail. Great fight for the victory in this race with De Brabander beating Kout only on the very last lap. Of note, for us, Kout running with the Italian engine of Dea Engineering. This is how the main players of the 2018 European Superkart Championship divided the spoils. The last race of the season attracted the highest number of participants, as many as 29, with a total of 36 appearing in the overall standings. At Le Mans, it was cold, windy and rainy and the wet track affected the running of the races. Race 1 was won by the future
