An annual short story competition in memory of one of Ireland’s most successful science fiction authors, the James White Award is open to non professional writers of any age and nationality and is free to enter. There is a first prize of £200 for the winner plus publication in Interzone magazine.
As the aim of the competition is to highlight new writers it is not open to professional writers, defined as ‘a writer with three short stories sales to qualifying markets or one novel sale to a qualifying market’. A list of qualifying markets can be found on the Science Fiction Writers of America website: http://writ.rs/sfwareqs
