Survivor is a new anthology of science fiction and fantasy stories based on the theme of the survival of everyday trauma. The key component is how ordinary people survive and thrive despite the traumatic experiences they have experienced. All submissions must contain some aspect of science fiction or fantasy, and a protagonist who is the survivor of a common trauma. They may be a veteran of war, a refugee, or someone who has experienced bullying, crime or any form of discrimination. A happy ending is not required, though a sense of closure and coming to terms is preferred. Characters should not remain victims.
Ideal length is 4,000-8,000 words, though editor JJ Pionke will consider stories up to 10,000 words. Survivor will be published by Lethe Press and payment is 3¢ per word for first print and electronic rights. Reprints will be considered, but note previous publication details in your cover letter. Simultaneous and multiple submissions are fine. Send up to three stories in doc, docx or rtf format by email with SURVIVOR SUB then the title of your story in the submission field. Deadline is 1 May.
