Your Dog | February 2025
Here’s a small insight into what it is like to be the editor of a magazine. As I plan the content, I think about relevant themes and stories for the time of year and obviously what people are going to enjoy. February is often a month to focus on love – it is the month of Valentine’s Day after all. When I came to plan this issue, I wanted a really strong lead feature about what it means to love dogs. The pitch about the story of Alexis Fleming setting up the first animal hospice came to me and I knew we would feature it in the magazine. It was an incredible story. But I was nervous. I was concerned that the theme of death may put a sad tone on the idea of celebrating our love of dogs. Once I read the story in full, my view changed. Alexis’s attitude of ‘let’s get on with it’ was empowering. It is about seizing the day and enjoying the love we share – every single day. And when I thought about it more deeply, that’s what life is about every day. So, that’s my philosophical thought and I’d encourage you to read the ‘Legacy of love’ on page 12 and be inspired to cherish our love of dogs even more.
In this issue, we have lots of inspiration of how you can seize each day with doggy days out, tourist spots, holidays, training, and ways to make your dog happy. I hope you find something in there you want to do – for the love of dogs!
