HANDLE WITH CONFIDENCE
Headshy horse who hates being touched on the face or ears, or who’s difficult to bridle and handle, will be tricky to manage. Fortunately, in most cases there’s a way to solve the problem but, before you can tackle any headshy behaviour, it’s important to establish why your horse doesn’t like his head being touched in the first place. “Horses can become headshy for different reasons, but quite often an ear condition called aural plaque can be the cause,” says Jason. Aural plaque presents as white, often crusty, plaque-like material forming on the skin inside the horse’s ears. It doesn’t always bother the horse but in some cases it can increase sensitivity within the ear.
