AFTER a steady build up the sun rose high over summer racing at Royal Ascot with huge crowds enjoying superb action in glorious weather. Reputations were lifted and some dented on the track in a
flurry of truly top class racing. It was great to see Trawlerman
and William Buick crown a brilliant Royal meeting for John and Thady Gosden with victory in the Ascot Gold Cup – and the news for this month is that he is set to meet Ballydoyle’s Illinois in a keenly-anticipated stayers’ rematch at Goodwood. Now we’re straight into a fresh batch of star-studded events, bookended by Sandown’s Coral Eclipse meeting
of the mighty in the first week of July and what promises to be a truly glorious climax to finish the month on the Sussex Downs, with Newmarket and York in between.
