FLYING SCOTSMAN100 TH ANNIVERSARY
DVD/Streaming TV Presenter Sir Tony Robinson narrates this documentary about the first 100 years of celebrity steam loco No. 60103 Flying Scotsman, which is now part of the National Collection.
The loco’s up and down history is generally well known, but here in video form are accounts of some of the key moments – from its entry into service with the LNER in 1923 and then acquiring its celebrity status and name, through the highs and lows of its three preservation-era private owners, and the trips abroad to North America and Australia, to finally being saved for the nation by the NRM.
There are many great clips of the locomotive in action throughout its career, plus archive interviews with former owners Alan Pegler, Bill McAlpine and Tony Marchington, and words from those tasked with keeping it going on the main line today.
