THERE are fresh hopes that both LBSCR ‘A1X’0-6-0Ts owned by The Terrier Trust (TTT) CIO could be back action at their Kent &East Sussex Railway (KESR) home.
In late February, No. 2678 (Knowle) entered the works at Rolvenden for attention to the frames which has kept the loco out of service for almost two years. An initial assessment in the summer of 2022 found No. 2678 would require a major chassis overhaul. Following a recent evaluation by the K&ESR Locomotive Department, while that work will be needed as part of the next major overhaul, it has been decided that the loco can be sufficiently repaired to allow limited operation for the next few years ahead of that overhaul.
Work on the chassis is likely to take around a couple of months and statutory inspections on the boiler will also be required before the loco can again haul trains.
