Fylde fatalities
ADISTRESSING accident near Lytham resulted in 14 deaths and several cases of serious injury. It occurred on the coast line between Preston and Blackpool on November 3.
Due to the breakage of an engine bogie wheel tyre, the train left the rails, demolished Wharton signal cabin (the signalman had a narrow escape), turned completely around and overturned along with two carriages, killing the driver. The train was the 4.40pm from Liverpool (Exchange) to Blackpool (Central) via Lytham hauled by L&Y 4-4-0 No. 1105.
