While
it’s
now
known
for
its
yearly
Call
Of
Duty,
Activision
was
once
a
beehive
for
diverse,
inventive
games.
Thanks to
the likes of David Crane, Steve Cartwright, Garry Kitchen and many others, Activision’s games often stood out on Atari’s
8-bit console and would often surpass Atari’s own releases. While I’ve mentioned the games of David Crane and Steve Cartwright several times in the past, I wanted to mention a real hero of mine: Jon Van Ryzin, who only produced two games for Atari’s system, but both were absolute belters. While Cosmic Commuter deserves its own coverage within these pages, it’s HERO which left the biggest impression on me at the time.
